O38 Variations in orthopedic trauma presentation during COVID-19 lockdown

Abstract Introduction The first national lockdown was imposed in Ireland from 27th March 2020, to combat the spread of Coronavirus. All non-essential travel, businesses, sporting activities and schools were closed. elderly advised cocoon. roadmap easing restrictions started May. measures resulted people spending more time indoors, with impact on social personal wellbeing. This had potential increase alcohol consumption, self inflicted injuries neglect. purpose our study is analyze variations orthopedic trauma presentations during pandemic compared similar period 2018 2019. Method Retrospective data collected Orthopedic theatre registry Our Lady Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co Louth, Ireland. Patients operated by team three months (March, April & May) 2018, 2019 2020 selected for analysis comparison. Result Total number surgeries performed March-May 551, 505 373 showing a significant reduction as previous years. Trauma children 2018,2019 132,131 90 respectively, downward trend. Surgeries further categorized into Major +, Major, Intermediate Minor according their level complexity. Although there seen surgeries, no difference observed + (73 vs. 79 57 2018). Conclusion Significant overall which attributable measures. trend between other categories can be explained whereas noted hip fractures.
